Snapchat Stories are profile-centered updates that are usually temporary, while Spotlight is a discovery feed for individual short-form videos. They can differ in audience, lifespan, discovery, format, engagement data, and intended use.
Audience and discovery
Stories are closely connected to a creator’s profile and audience settings. Spotlight posts are designed for broader discovery and may reach people who do not already follow or know the creator.
Duration and availability
Stories are temporary by design and can disappear after their availability period, deletion, or an audience change. Spotlight posts may remain discoverable for longer, although availability is never guaranteed.
Formats and interaction
Both surfaces can contain vertical video. Public Spotlight metadata more often includes view, like, comment, and share totals. Public Story responses may omit those numbers, so a viewer should hide missing metrics rather than invent zero values.
Which tool should you use?
